RADFORD, Va. – This past weekend the Radford University men’s and women’s track and field team participated in Project Linus at the Dedmon Center.
This community service initiative was spearheaded by senior Matt Dobson. Dobson organized the project through the Student Athlete Advisor Committee (SAAC).
“I learned about Project Linus this summer working as a camp counselor,” commented Dobson. “It was a fun and easy way to give back to the community and I knew that I wanted to get the track and field team involved as soon as possible.”
Project Linus began in December 1995 after founder, Karen Loucks was inspired to make blankets for her local children’s cancer center. Project Linus is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide love, sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through gifts of new handmade blankets and afghans, lovely created by volunteer “blanketeers.”
