Highlanders End Day One of Invitational in Fourth Place

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford University swimming and diving team placed three competitors in the top-10 in four events at the Highlander Invitational Thursday night at the Dedmon Center Natatorium.
The Highlanders scored 118 points to finish day one in fourth place.
The Highlanders were led by freshman Emily Turner (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Technical), who placed fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with a personal best time of 2:11.67. Turner’s time places her in the top three all-time performers in the 200-yard individual medley at Radford. She also placed eighth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.33.
Katie Shaffer (Virginia Beach, Va./Oceanside) placed third for the Highlanders, scoring 231.60 points in the one-meter diving event.
Sophomore Whitney Friend (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) was the other Highlander to place in the top-10, as she recorded a 10th place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:26.06.
Radford will back in action tomorrow morning for day two of the Highlander Invitational starting at 9:30 a.m.
