RADFORD, Va. -- Three members of the Radford track & field team will be competing in the 2009 USA Outdoor Track Field Championships held at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon June 25-28.

Kyle Morse (Northfield Mass./Northfield Mount Herman), who redshirted in 2008-09, will be looking to leave Oregon with the chance to represent Team USA at the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany. Morse, a 2008 All-American, will be competing in the open division in the men’s hammer throw. Morse, who has a season best throw of 63.57-meters, ranks among the top 45 hammer throwers in the nation. In Morse’s last three meets, he consistently reached the mark of 62.00-meters or better with his throws.

Justin Smith (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby) and Brett Olinger (Timberville, Va./Broadway) will have their eyes set on making the national team as well. They will be competing for a spot on the national team that will travel to Port of Spain, Trinidad for the 2009 Junior Pan American Games.

Olinger will participate in the 400-meter hurdles, where he recently recorded his personal best (53.61) and a fourth place finish at the Big South Championship. Smith placed second in the shot put at the Big South Championship with a throw of 16.19-meters.

The Highlanders will be stepping on hallowed ground at Hayward Field, which has been the site of four Olympic Trials and a myriad of national championships.
