Tomaic Excels at Maryland Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Radford women’s tennis team participated in the Maryland Invitational this weekend where junior Ivana Tomaic (Zagreb, Croatia/Third Gymnasium) reached the finals of the flight” A” singles draw.
Tomaic posted a 4-1 overall record in a very competitive tournament with teams like Maryland, George Washington, Delaware, Syracuse and Georgetown.
On her way to the finals, Tomaic dispatched of in-state foe Katherine Bulling of James Madison in straight sets. She defeated Jacqueline Corba of George Washington, 6-2, 6-0, to advance to the quarterfinals
In her quarterfinal match, she put away Stevi Petrelli in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. In the semifinals, Tomaic recovered from a sprained ankle in the second set to pick up a straight set victory over Megan Dorn of Delaware, 6-2, 7-6.
“Ivana played a great tournament,” commented head coach Bruce Harrison. “She sprained her ankle in the second set of the semifinals against Megan Dorn and fought her way back to win the match. She did a great job getting to the finals”.
In the finals she faced Eleanor Sardinha of Syracuse and she was just too much for Tomaic as she fell in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
The women’s tennis team heads to the Virginia Tech Fall Invitational in two weeks.
