Drew Dickerson is Radford's Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations. He oversees all aspects of the Highlander athletic media relations efforts. A 1995 Radford graduate, Dickerson returned to his alma mater in November of 2003 as Sports Information Director. He was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics a year later.
Dickerson oversees the athletic media relations office, which handles the production of athletic publications such as media guides and game programs, and maintains the Highlander website. The office is responsible for the media relations and reporting for all of RU's 19 intercollegiate sports. That includes composing game notes, press releases and compiling statistics in addition to historical record keeping.
Dickerson joined the Highlander family after serving a similar role on Big South Conference staff for five years, first as Director of Public Relations, then as Assistant Commissioner. While at the Big South, Dickerson oversaw a tremendous growth of the Conference's public relations efforts. He was been instrumental in the development and implementation of the Big South's online presence, from a bold new web site to an e-mail newsletter, which continues to reach hundreds of fans. He also spearheaded an increased visible presence, both in print and electronic media. He helped to syndicate the Big South Roundup, a weekly radio feature heard throughout North and South Carolina during the basketball season.
Dickerson came to the Conference after serving as Assistant Sports Editor for the Hickory Daily
Record. He oversaw a reporting staff of three, designed and edited the daily newspaper. He also reported and wrote about various sports, ranging from the high school level to the pros in the Hickory, N.C. area. Prior to working at Hickory, Dickerson worked at the Times Community Newspapers in Reston, Va. as a Business Editor and Chief Paginator. His duties included designing and editing the business section of 13 weekly newspapers, paginating news pages and troubleshooting computer problems. Dickerson began his career in journalism in Galax, Va. where he worked at The Gazette as Sports Editor for the tri-weekly newspaper.
He is an active member of several organizations, including the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
Dickerson recieved a Bachelor's of Science in Media Studies from Radford in 1995. While at Radford, he served as a student assistant under former Sports Information Directors Rick Rogers and Mike Ashley.
A diehard Washington Redskins fan, he resides in Radford with his wife Susan and daughters Lauren and Megan.
