Profile:Nara Brookes enters her third year as an assistant on Radford's coaching staff. Brookes will focus on the goalkeepers and forwards. Brookes enjoyed a successful playing career at Appalachian State. Her familiarity with the Highlanders stemmed from her playing days when RU and ASU faced off in NorPac competition during the final three years of her career. In her senior season, she earned Regional All-American honors and was selected to 2003 NFHCA East/West All-Star game. She was also named the 2003 NorPac East Division Player and Offensive Player of the Year as well as being named first team All-Conference. As a junior, she was a second team All-Conference selection. Along with her accolades, she left ASU as one of the top scorers in school history. Brookes tallied 20 goals in 2003, the third-best total in Appalachian history and the most since 1982, as well as registering a school-record 48 total points. She still ranks among the top four in both goals and assists. Brookes is not the first from her family to roam the Highlander sideline. Her older sister Tessa was Woods' assistant in 2002 after a four-year playing career at Radford. A native of Haddam, Conn., Brookes graduated in 2005 from Appalachian State with a B.S. in Special Education and a minor in Psychology. She is currently working on her Master's in Speech Pathology.
